چکیده

A st act.—During migration, many songbirds eat primarily fruit while depositing fat. Given that some fruits contain mostly carbohydrate and others contain mostly lipid, the ability of birds to fatt en may depend on the macronutrient composition of the fruit. Stable isotopes of carbon may be useful in determining the source of nutrients used for synthesizing fat, because the enzyme that regulates the transfer of carbon skeletons from carbohydrate into fat synthesis has a higher affi nity for 12C than for 13C, whereas dietary lipids can be directly incorporated into animal fat. Thus, fat stores of animals that are synthesized directly from dietary lipid should have isotopic signatures similar to dietary lipid, whereas biosynthesis of fats from dietary carbohydrates should produce changes in isotopic signatures. We tested these predictions by manipulating the concentrations and isotopic signatures of macronutrients in diets fed to Yellow-rumped Warblers (Dendroica coronata). The δ13C of depot fat in birds fed high-lipid diets was similar to that of dietary lipid, whereas δ13C of depot fat in birds fed low-lipid diets indicated that a combination of dietary lipid and carbohydrate were used to synthesize depot fat. Models that incorporated 8‰ discrimination between dietary carbohydrate and depot fat consistently estimated the proportion of dietary lipid and carbohydrate routed into depot fat. Stable-isotope analysis of macronutrients in the diet of wild birds combined with estimates of the eff ects of diet composition on the isotopic signature of depot fat in birds off er a method to identify the relative importance of nutritional resources used by songbirds to deposit fat. Production of chicken meat is an important branch of food industry. Generally, poultry meat farmers aim to produce birds with superior body weight and feed conversion ratio. However, in line with current developments, there are other parameters that must to be taken into account such as lower body fat deposition and improvement in the nutrient composition of products corresponding to consumer r...

Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) Eating Plan: Beyond the Hypertension

Background and Objectives: Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) eating pattern, a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low-fat dairy with a reduced content of sodium, saturated fat, and total fat is introduced as an appropriate diet for hypertension. This eating pattern was basically designed to normalize blood pressure in patients with hypertension, and a large body of d...

Metabolic routing of dietary nutrients in birds: effects of diet quality and macronutrient composition revealed using stable isotopes.

During fall migration many songbirds switch from consuming primarily insects to consuming mostly fruit. Fruits with more carbohydrates and less protein may be sufficient to rebuild expended fat stores, but such fruits may be inadequate to replace catabolized protein. We manipulated the concentrations and isotopic signatures of macronutrients in diets fed to birds to study the effects of diet qu...

Dietary Garlic Powder Supplementation Could Ameliorate Unfavorable Effects of Choline Deficiency on the Liver Health and Immune System of Broiler Chickens

Effects of different levels of choline and garlic powder on performance, liver health and immune response in broiler chickens were evaluated in this study. A factorial experiment with 2 dietary choline levels (the recommended level in Ross 308 broiler guidelines and 25 % less than the recommendation) and 3 dietary garlic powder levels (0, 5 or 10 g/kg diet) was conducted using Ross 308 broiler ...

In a 42-d experiment, 576 one-day-old Vencobb 308 broiler chicks were used to investigate the effects of lecithin extract (0.5 g/kg), choline chloride 60% (1 g/kg) and Bio choline (1 g/kg) in diets of moderate and high energy in a 4 × 2 factorial arrangement on performance and certain physiological traits in broiler chickens. The inclusion of Bio choline and lecithin extract in the diet signifi...
